WNC S3 Facility Awarded Taiwan Green Building Label

Hsinchu, August 1, 2024 - In order to boost the positive impact of its operations on the environment and comply with international sustainability trends, WNC spares no effort in the promotion of green buildings. For construction of its S3 facility in the Southern Science Park, it followed Taiwan Green Building Label (EEWH) specifications in design planning, material selection and construction, with the goal of creating a building with the lowest possible environmental impact. WNC was recently awarded a Taiwan Green Building Label for its S3 facility, making it WNC’s first green factory.
During the 2019 planning and construction of S3, WNC aimed to meet the four major objectives of ecology, energy saving, waste reduction and health. The design was based on Taiwan Green Building Label specifications, taking into consideration nine evaluation aspects of biodiversity, greening amount, soil water retention, daily energy saving, carbon dioxide reduction, waste reduction, indoor environment, water resources and sewage and waste improvement. The following measures were executed in the pursuit of these goals:
- Ecology: Increase the overall greenification area and plant biodiversity around the facility. Use permeable paving to boost base water retention.
- Energy saving: The plant adopts lighting with LED energy saving labels; low-E glass that can reduce power wastage and air conditioning expenses; the roofing adopts PS boards and heat-insulating paint to boost heat insulation. There is a solar power station in place that will help us achieve our goal of 100% renewable energy for all WNC sites by 2040.
- Waste reduction: Sanitation equipment is selected with water-saving labels and water recycling and filtration systems are installed for plant irrigation within the site. Materials with green building material labels, including water-based paints, mineral fiber ceiling tiles, calcium silicate boards, etc. are given priority.
- Health: A reading room, gym and yoga room are provided for employees to take advantage of. Carbon monoxide sensors are installed in the basement and carbon dioxide sensors in production areas to continuously monitor the concentration of these harmful gases in the respective areas. Ventilation equipment is in place to adjust air quality as needed.
In 2022 WNC set a goal that all new factories must obtain Green Building Labels. In addition to the S3 facility that has already been awarded the Taiwan Green Building Label, the second phase of WNC’s Vietnam factory will soon be completed and will undergo the US's LEED green building certification. We hope to use these two new factories as a model to continue to introduce green building design techniques and related measures for each company site. Existing factories and office buildings will also continue to optimize environmental protection and energy conservation.
