Hsinchu, November 20, 2024 – In the 7th Global Corporate Sustainability Awards (GCSA) and the 17th Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards (TCSA), hosted by the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy, WNC won a bronze medal for the first time in the Sustainability Reporting Award of the GCSA, and for the second year in succession won the TCSA Social Inclusion Leadership Award. This year's GCSA received entries from 82 companies across 18 countries, while the TCSA saw 526 companies, government entities and non-profit organizations take part, so the winning of these accolades is a testament to WNC's outstanding efforts in sustainability implementation.
WNC's Chief Sustainability Officer & Spokesperson Molly Lin said, “WNC continues to leverage its core capabilities and promote social inclusion through strategic projects and sustainable innovation actions. At the same time, through its sustainability report and ESG website, it maintains a dialogue with stakeholders and improves the transparency and quality of sustainability information with the overall aim of achieving a more positive social impact.”
The GCSA's Sustainability Reporting Award is an international award which evaluates the transparency, completeness, credibility and communication effectiveness of a company's English language sustainability report, and the completeness, timeliness and interactivity of their sustainability website. This year 46 companies were recognized. WNC's sustainability report is verified each year by a third party for compliance with GRI guidelines, the SASB's corresponding industry standards, and the AA1000 AS v3 Type 1 moderate assurance level, presenting key issues such as ESG and supply chain management information, and corresponding risks, opportunities and strategies in a clear and concise manner. The company also posts sustainability reports from previous years on its website, updates sustainability information on a timely basis, and uses different languages and formats to share its sustainability principles and actions. This helps WNC strengthen its connections with internal and external stakeholders, establish a value-sharing model, and move toward becoming a benchmark enterprise for sustainability.
WNC's education projects, centered around the theme of “Beyond the Mountains, Dreaming Big Together”, enabled it to once again win the TCSA Social Inclusion award. This award is the award most fiercely competed for amongst the TCSA award categories. In total 71 organizations took part showing that more and more companies are placing emphasis on green issues and pursuing actions for the social good. WNC has always cared about children's education and worked with non-profit organizations, universities, and stakeholders to solve problems such as the digital gap, uneven distribution of educational resources, insufficient cultural stimulation, and a shortage of educational manpower. It has promoted rural education for many years and encouraged children to learn traditional dance forms, judo, choir singing, archery and other activities, sponsoring indigenous education with appropriate programs. In addition the company works with the Boyo Foundation offering free after-school English classes. Together with NTHU students WNC employees designed basic communications science teaching materials and launched the WNC Classroom to promote science knowledge. The company has also sponsored service clubs of NTHU and NCKU to help in implementation of university social responsibility (USR) programs; from 2021 to 2023, more than NT$ 11.69 million was donated. This helps ensure that the children receive fair and high-quality education, which in turn helps expand their perspectives and boost their learning motivation. In addition, university students participating in USR programs were able to cultivate their soft skills such as task execution and problem-solving.
WNC will continue to participate in international sustainability initiatives, improve the transparency and reliability of its information, expand communication channels with stakeholders and invite employees, customers and suppliers to jointly show concern for children in need, land ecology and smallholder farmers, working to create a better environment and society.
