Hsinchu, December 11, 2024 — The Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy held its awards ceremony for the 17th Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards (TCSA) this morning. A total of 526 companies, government entities and non-profit organizations took part in this year’s TCSA. WNC was honored with the Top 100 Exemplary Companies in Sustainability Award in the Overall Sustainability Performance Awards category for the first time, and also received the Platinum Medal in the Corporate Sustainability Report Awards category for the second year in a row. These awards are a testament to WNC's performance in sustainability and ESG, helping the company enhance communication with stakeholders and be a good influence in the world.

In the environmental aspect of ESG, WNC has set the following targets according to SBTi methodologies: reduce Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 42% (base year: 2022) and Scope 3 emissions by 25% (base year: 2023) by 2030. These targets have passed SBTi’s eligibility verification and technical screening stages and are currently in the target evaluation stage. It has also joined RE100 and is committed to achieving 100% renewable energy usage by 2040 and reaching net zero by 2050. WNC has completed GHG inventory for all its sites and obtained third-party verification for said inventory. In 2023, WNC reduced its Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by over 10% and reached 16% renewable energy adoption rate and 87% waste recycling rate, exceeding its original goals in all three areas. It also reduced its water usage intensity by nearly 27% in 2023 compared to 2020. WNC’s efforts in low-carbon transition include obtaining bronze level Taiwan Green Building Label certification for its S3 site, and it is in the process of obtaining silver level LEED certification for the second phase of its Vietnam site.

In the social aspect, WNC provides employees with a safe and healthy work environment and promotes the concepts of diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace. It has also steadily expanded its social welfare projects, including those focusing on remote education and smallholder farms. For corporate governance, the ratio of female directors on WNC’s board reached one-third in 2023. In the same year, WNC held its inaugural Sustainable Supply Chain Conference. In the future this conference will be held on a semi-annual basis. WNC became a member of the Responsible Business Alliance (RBA) and TNFD Forum this year and plans to issue its inaugural TNFD report in 2025.
