WNC Revisits Xitou to Plant Trees and Monitor Biodiversity

Hsinchu, Taiwan, April 25, 2026 — WNC Corporation (WNC) has integrated climate governance and natural capital management into its operational decision-making. The company has partnered with the National Taiwan University (NTU) Experimental Forest Management Office since 2023 to promote afforestation, planting thousands of native Taiwanese trees along the banks of the Zhuoshui River in Xiluo and in the Xitou Nature Education Area, creating reforested areas that help with carbon sequestration and ecological restoration. Today, WNC President & CEO Jeffrey Gau, and Chief Sustainability Officer Molly Lin, along with a team composed of WNC senior managers, Director Ming-Jer Tsai and Deputy Director Po-Neng Chiang of the NTU Experimental Forest Management Office, and Director Chia-Wen Peng of the Xitou Tract revisited the reforested area in Xitou to review the afforestation results over the past two years as part of a long-term commitment to ecological conservation.
As of 2025, the reforested area in Xitou has captured and stored 1,198.1 kilograms of CO2e, an increase of 967.1 kilograms of CO2e over the previous year, showing steady growth in carbon sequestration. In addition, the NTU Experimental Forest Management Office regularly conducts maintenance on the reforested area, and has completed four rounds of weeding and tending last year to ensure favorable growing conditions for the saplings. WNC’s Chief Sustainability Officer, Molly Lin, said, “Despite being impacted by typhoons and wildlife activity, the overall survival rate of planted trees in the reforested area is around 85%, indicating that the afforestation strategy and management mechanisms are quite resilient. Besides serving as a carbon sink, our ecological monitoring records show that this reforested area has also helped with ecological restoration, demonstrating that our efforts have had a positive impact.”
The reforested area in Xitou supports a wide variety of animals, including three families and six species of amphibians (e.g., the Central Formosa toad, Eiffinger’s tree frog, and the temple tree frog) and three families and four species of reptiles (e.g., the Formosa slug snake and Kumai’s blunt-headed snake). This indicates there is an ongoing improvement in habitat quality and ecosystem stability. For this visit, WNC also partnered with Forest Union, a team composed of NTU alumni, to provide a guided ecological tour to WNC employees and their family members, allowing them to obtain a deeper understanding of Xitou’s local ecology and culture. This tour also allowed employees and their family members to see the fruits of WNC’s conservation efforts, strengthening their awareness of biodiversity and social participation and helping them put sustainability principles into practice in daily life.
Looking ahead, WNC will continue to fine tune its natural capital management and low-carbon transition strategies. Through long-term afforestation and ecological monitoring, the company will strengthen its carbon reduction and natural environment protection measures to promote healthy and resilient ecosystem growth and allow it to advance toward goals such as nature-positive growth and zero deforestation. WNC will also work with its partners to expand the impact of its efforts in sustainability and realize the vision of corporate growth in harmony with nature.
