Hsinchu, Taiwan, August 27, 2024 — The Green Dining International Network Launch ceremony organized by the Green Dining Guide (GDG) was held this morning at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Taipei. The employee cafeterias of Wistron NeWeb Corporation (WNC) were awarded two stars in the Food Made Good assessment of The Sustainable Restaurant Association (The SRA), making them the first and only Food Made Good accredited corporate cafeterias in Taiwan.
The SRA is committed to promoting global sustainable food evaluation standards, and launched the Food Made Good Standard in 2023. The Standard is the world's first and only 360-degree sustainability accreditation designed for food & beverage businesses. It was introduced to Taiwan by the GDG and was integrated with GDG’s own Leaf certification system, with the aim of helping Taiwan's food and beverage industry and corporate cafeterias align with global standards and promoting sustainable diets. The evaluation is based on ten indicators in three aspects of Sourcing, Society and Environment. The indicators include Celebrate Provenance, Support Farmers and Fishers, More Plants Better Meat, Source Seafood Sustainably, Treat Staff Fairly, Feed People Well, Support the Community, Reduce Your Footprint, Waste No Food, and Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.
For more than a decade, WNC has been implementing the concept of sustainability in its employee cafeterias. In addition to providing organic and healthy meals, WNC promotes green dining culture in employees’ daily lives through purchase of organic foods, smallholder sales events, farming activities, and the promotion of environmentally friendly tableware. In order to align with international standards, the sources of all meal ingredients used in WNC’s employee cafeterias have been disclosed to employees since 2023. The company regularly invites Green Restaurant partners to its cafeterias for sales events. By ensuring the supply chain of meal ingredients complies with carbon emissions, natural resources, biodiversity, and fair trade requirements, WNC strives to establish a sustainable culture together with its partners.
Apart from these actions to improve the quality of catering and the green dining culture, WNC was one of the first large enterprises in Taiwan to sign the Green Dining Pledge and join the GDG initiative in 2023. The company has also been recognized by Taiwan’s Ministry of the Environment as an Eco-Freiendly Restaurant, obtained the Social Inclusion Leadership Award in the 2023 Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards (TCSA), and the Pioneer Enterprises in Green Dining Award presented by GDG. Moreover, in the first year of the introduction of the Food Made Good Standard to Taiwan, WNC’s employee cafeterias became the first and only non-F&B companies to receive the certification.
“In alignment with the Chairman and President’s ideal of taking care of employees’ dietary health, WNC became the first large company in Hsinchu Science Park to use organic vegetables for staff meals in 2013, and has gradually introduced organic vegetables into all employee cafeterias at all Taiwan sites. The company dedicates itself to taking care of the health of its employees and the livelihoods of small farmers. These approaches have also fostered the continuous improvement of our catering suppliers, social enterprises and other partners. We hope that through our influence on and collaborations with our employees, their families, our customers, suppliers, public welfare organizations, and other partners in the industry, we can utilize our own strengths and abilities to achieve a more sustainable future,” said Molly Lin, WNC's Chief Sustainability Officer & Spokesperson.
